Position Overview:

The Senior Lead Mechanic is responsible for overseeing and performing advanced mechanical work on our waste collection fleet, ensuring all equipment remains safe, reliable, and fully operational. This role provides technical leadership within the shop, supports maintenance planning, and plays a key role in upholding safety and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and support a team of mechanics and apprentices responsible for waste collection trucks and related equipment.
• Assign, prioritize, and review daily work orders to ensure timely and efficient workflow.
• Train and mentor technicians in diagnostics, safety procedures, and waste-industry-specific repair practices.
• Diagnose and repair complex electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on front-loaders, side-loaders, rear-loaders, and roll-off units.
• Perform and oversee major repairs such as engine work, hydraulic rebuilds, packer and arm repairs, welding, and fabrication.
• Manage preventative maintenance schedules to maximize uptime and extend equipment lifecycle.
• Conduct and oversee MVI inspections and ensure fleet compliance with CVIP and commercial safety standards.
• Maintain and repair onboard fleet technology including cameras, scales, and automation systems.

• Maintain accurate repair records, inspection logs, and parts usage documentation.
• Manage shop inventory and coordinate with vendors and OEM suppliers.
• Communicate with operations to schedule equipment repairs, minimize disruptions, and prioritize urgent issues.

Qualifications:

• Journeyman Mechanic (required)
• Red Seal Certification (required)
• CNG Inspection Ticket (asset)
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (required)
• Class 3 Driver’s License (asset)
• 5 years maintenance experience (asset)
• 5 years management experience (asset)
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs
• Experience with waste equipment and its functions (asset)
• CVIP License or willingness to obtain
