About Us

The Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of six Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Communication Sciences and Disorders), a large Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and four Research Centres. The Faculty has more than 3,200 undergraduate students and more than 800 graduate students (200 PhD students).

The mission of the School is to nurture the creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking of tomorrow’s global leaders, through transformative interdisciplinary research, education, and knowledge mobilization. Delivering a primarily undergraduate program, the School of Health Studies focuses on streams of studies including Health Sciences, Health and Aging, Health Promotion, Biology, and Rehabilitation Sciences.

Responsibilities

The Research Project Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the research program for Dr. Shannon Sibbald. The Research Project Coordinator will support the development of research study plans including institutional ethics applications, monitoring projects’ progression towards their milestones, participation in qualitative and quantitative data analyses and manuscript writing. The Research Project Coordinator will also be asked to support and/or train graduate students and volunteers within the research program. The Research Project Coordinator will also support grant submissions including proposals for Tri-Agency funding and support the development of research budgets.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in a relevant in Health Sciences related discipline required
• Project Management Professional certification completed or in progress preferred
• PhD in relevant Health Sciences related discipline preferred

• 3 years of experience working in academic research environment required
• Experience in qualitative and quantitative research required
• Experience in preparation of grant applications and ethics submissions required
• Experience assisting with the preparation of research budgets and monitoring accounts; experience conducting interviews for research preferred
• 5 years working in an academic research environment preferred

• Familiarity with financial principles and experience developing research budgets
• Knowledge of regulations and guidelines governing research in an academic environment and of best practices for reviewing and writing grant proposals
• Familiarity with techniques for planning, managing and coordinating projects, with competing priorities that involve a variety of stakeholders
• Experience in developing institutional ethics applications and research plans
• Experience with supporting funding proposals including requests for Tri-Agency funding and completing required ROLA for funding requests.
• Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
• Communication skills with an ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
• Ability to ensure confidentiality and privacy is maintained through the appropriate retention and destruction of information
• Attention to detail and proofreading abilities with an excellent command of the English language
• Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the University’s events and activities
• Computer skills with statistical software packages preferred
• Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
• Project management skills to manage a project from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
• Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
• Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
• Familiarity with University research policies and practices preferred
