Position Overview:

The Construction Engineer (Temporary Works) plays a key role in supporting the execution of the Fraser River Tunnel Project. This role focuses on the coordination and implementation of temporary works required to enable permanent construction activities. You will support the construction team by coordinating temporary works planning, execution, and removal—ensuring compliance with safety, design, and construction requirements, and integrating across multiple project disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate temporary works (e.g., access roads, temporary bridges, shoring, scaffolding, platforms, crane pads, utility supports, staging areas, drainage management, haul routes) in support of tunnel, civil, and marine works.
  • Liaise with designers and temporary works engineers to review and optimize designs, ensuring constructability, safety, and compliance.
  • Provide technical support for temporary works installation and removal, including inspection coordination and ensuring adherence to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Collaborate with the Construction Manager and discipline leads to develop and maintain short-term and long-term construction schedules that integrate temporary works.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to define scopes of work, obtain pricing, manage deliverables, and ensure timely installation of temporary works.
  • Support the permitting and approval process by working with internal teams and external agencies to secure necessary agreements and clearances for temporary installations.
  • Support site logistics planning, including laydown areas, temporary utilities, access control, traffic and pedestrian management.
  • Manage field issues related to temporary works, track changes, and initiate RFIs or field clarifications as required.
  • Maintain documentation of temporary works design approvals, inspections, compliance records, and removal procedures.
  • Assist in managing construction risks related to temporary works, including site conditions, environmental constraints, and public/stakeholder interfaces.
  • Monitor performance, schedule, and cost implications of temporary works; recommend corrective actions where necessary.
  • Lead the safe execution of all on-site construction activities, ensuring strict compliance with health, safety and environmental (HSE) regulations while fostering a proactive safety culture among crews and subcontractors.

Education and qualifications:

  • University degree, technical diploma, or post-grad certificate in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • 4+ years of experience on large-scale infrastructure projects, preferably involving tunnels, roadworks, or bridge construction.
  • Experience in temporary works coordination is a strong asset.
  • Registration as EIT or P.Eng. with EGBC
  • Right to work in Canada.

Why You Should Apply

  • Up to 5% RRSP matching.
  • Career advancement, training, and education opportunities.
  • Travel allowance.
  • Four weeks vacation.
