Job Summary The IU Student Success Corps program, out of the IUS Office of Academic Affairs, is looking for individuals who want to get involved in their community; impact the lives of local youth, and gain extraordinary skills and experience serving as a tutor and mentor to K-12 students. The program requires travel to schools and community centers 5-15 minutes from campus. Schedules are set each semester and based on applicant availability, which must be between 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Provides academic and socioemotional support to K-12 grade students.
- Provides college and career readiness support to students which can include workshop participation.
- Assesses students' needs through observation and attention to detail.
- Inputs and tracks data on each session that takes place within data management system.
- Maintains confidentiality of students and maintain a professional manner at all times.
- Attends monthly scheduled PD sessions.
- Responds to emails and other communications promptly.
Qualifications EDUCATION
Required - High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred - Previous tutoring/mentoring experience
SKILLS
Required - Ability to work collaboratively with students and staff of diverse cultures and backgrounds
- Ability to work a set schedule each week between hours indicated in job description
- Ability to commit to at least 1 semester in this position
- Must be patient, empathetic, and willing to try new ways of teaching students
- Capable of cataloging notes from tutoring sessions, engaging with a payroll system, and complete other tasks with minimal supervision
- Ability to communicate promptly with remote supervisors via text, email, and other methods of communication
- Demonstrates problem solving and communication (verbal and written)
- Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with students, families and fellow IU Southeast staff
Preferred - Ability to speak another language (Bilingual)
Additional Information Employer sponsorship is not available for this position.
Work Location Must have access to reliable transportation.
The program requires travel to schools and community centers located approximately 5-15 minutes away from the IU Southeast Campus in New Albany, Indiana
Advertised Salary $12.00 - $20.00 per hour, dependent upon experience.
Work Hours Up to 25 hours per week. Spring semester work will begin in January.
Schedules are set each semester and based on applicant availability, which must be between 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
