Summary/Objective
As the Critical Engineering Manager – Electrical, you will serve as the site electrical lead, leveraging your expert technical knowledge and leadership skills to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all data center electrical systems. You will oversee the site level electrical operations and strategy while supporting the Site Operations Manager in achieving overall site performance objectives
Responsibilities
- Lead and implement a standardized culture of safety across all STACK data centers.
- Serve as the primary point of technical escalation and site subject-matter expert for all electrical systems, leading the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mission-critical infrastructure including HV distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS, ATS, generators, PQMs, and PDUs.
- Develop technically accurate documentation to include but not limited to Method of Procedures (MOP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP) and Sequence of Operations, training documents, and others.
- Develop and maintain electrical & mechanical infrastructure maintenance plans and procedures per manufacturers’ recommendation and STACK guidelines.
- Oversee electrical testing, commissioning, isolation, and switching activities as required to ensure compliance with local requirements and STACK standards.
- Respond to incidents, lead technical resolution and root cause analysis (RCA), and implement timely corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Oversee and coordinate the activities of maintenance contractors and service providers to ensure all electrical and facilities operations meet STACK standards and customer objectives.
- Interface with Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), and other automation tools to monitor, analyze, and optimize electrical system performance, reliability, and energy efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all OH&S procedures and requirements, including permit to work, risk assessments, safe work method statements, personal protective equipment.
- Assist the Site Operations Manager and the Critical Operations Manager in managing the FM Services Provider(s) contract and service delivery in accordance with contract KPI’s & SLA’s
- Review or prepare reports and information as required.
Competencies
- Demonstrated success in mission-critical environments such as data centers, power generation, healthcare, or advanced manufacturing facilities where system reliability and uptime are essential.
- Expert level of knowledge of the electrical systems used in a data center environment, including but not limited to HV distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS, ATS, generators, PQMs, and PDUs.
- Ability to interpret and analyze complex electrical documentation, including schematics, single-line diagrams, blueprints, and engineering specifications, to support operational and design decisionmaking.
- Proficient in data center commissioning standards.
- Strong leadership and coordination skills with the ability to direct internal teams and contractors effectively.
- Ability to deliver effective presentations on data center operations, to customers and management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and perform well under high-pressure situations.
- Strong team player.
Work Environment/Conditions
- Working on site at the STACK TKY01A Data Center in Inzai, Chiba Pref.
Travel Required
- Minimal travel is required for this role.
Required Education and Experience
- 6+ years of experience in data center or other mission-critical operations (e.g., power generation, oil and gas, healthcare, or advanced manufacturing).
- 3+ years of supervisory experience, managing teams of five or more.
- Proven experience administering and managing preventive maintenance programs for critical facilities.
- Expert knowledge of electrical distribution systems, including HV switchgear, transformers, ATS, UPS, STS, battery management systems, generators, and PDUs down to branch circuit level.
- Working knowledge of supporting mechanical systems such as chillers, DX units, CRAH/CRAC, dehumidifiers, pumps, VFDs, cooling towers, leak detection, digital controls, fire detection/suppression, and BMS.
- Proficient in computerized maintenance and monitoring systems, including CMMS, BMS, DCIM, and customer portals.
- Strong project management, troubleshooting, and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with local/national regulatory codes, guidelines, and permit processes.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with internal teams, vendors and customers.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Intermediate or higher English proficiency, both written and verbal.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
- Class 2 Electrical Chief Engineer license or an equivalent qualification recognized in Japan.
- Technical certification or trade qualification in Electrical or Mechanical disciplines.
- Business-level English communication skills.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
- Must be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays, and on-call support.
