Software International (SI) supplies technical talent to a variety of clients ranging from Fortune 100/500/1000 companies to small and mid-sized organizations in Canada/US and Europe.

We currently have a multiple re-extendable long term contract roles as a BI & ETL Tester - Hybrid with our global SAP consulting client working onsite at large CPG/Entertainment clients office 2-3 days a week in dwontown Toronto. This is a 6 month contract initially but will be extended long term.

Overview

We are seeking a skilled BI & ETL Tester to validate analyze and ensure the accuracy performance and reliability of data pipelines BI reports dashboards and analytics solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in data validation SQL ETL process testing and working with modern data platforms.

Key Responsibilities

1. ETL / Data Pipeline Testing

• Validate end-to-end ETL workflows including data extraction transformation and loading .
• Perform source-to-target data validation record counts reconciliation schema checks and transformation logic checks.
• Test data ingestion from multiple sources (databases files SAP cloud platforms).
• Verify scheduling dependencies and error-handling processes in ETL jobs.
• Conduct regression functional and sanity testing for data loads.

2. BI / Reporting Testing

• Validate BI reports and dashboards for accuracy formatting filters drill-downs KPIs and aggregations .
• Compare visual outputs with backend data using SQL queries.
• Test performance data refresh cycles row-level security and report-level access.

3. SQL & Data Quality Validation

• Write complex SQL queries to validate business rules calculations and data transformations.
• Identify data issues anomalies and integrity gaps.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers BI Developers and Data Analyst to resolve defects.

4. Test Planning & Execution

• Create detailed test plans test cases test scenarios and acceptance criteria.
• Perform manual testing and assist in setting up automated testing frameworks (e.g. Python PyTest dbt tests).
• Document defects in tools like JIRA and follow through to closure.
• Participate in sprint planning reviews and Agile ceremonies.

Required Skills & Experience

• 510 years of BI/ETL testing or QA experience.
• Strong SQL skills (joins window functions aggregations CTEs).
• Experience testing ETL tools such as: Airflow
• Experience with BI tools:
• Power BI SAP BO etc.
• Understanding of data warehousing (Star/Snowflake schema dimensions facts).
• Knowledge of cloud data platforms ( GCP is a plus).
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodology.
• Experience in defect management and test documentation tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SAP source systems (SAP ECC S/4HANA SAP BW SAP IBP) for data validation.
• Exposure to big data technologies (BigQuery).
• Automation experience using Python or SQL-based frameworks.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for data testing.
• Experience with version control (Git).
