Opikawa is seeking dynamic and responsible candidates eager to live a unique adventure based on fun, learning, and respect for others and nature. As a camp counselor, you will actively participate in the daily life of the camp by organizing various activities such as canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming, canoe-camping expeditions, themed games, and campfires.
Our summer camp welcomes international youth, including native English speakers and participants looking to immerse themselves in and learn English. All activities and programming are conducted in English; however, you must be able to communicate in French as well.
This position offers an opportunity to develop your skills in group management and outdoor activity facilitation within an inspiring and collaborative natural environment.
1. Activities and animation
● Plan, organize and lead a variety of activities for small and large groups (activities, evening games, campfires).
● Help organize a variety of themes and special activities
● Encourage team spirit and camper participation
2. Camp life
● Be a role model for all campers
● Supervise and monitor campers during their stay
● Participate actively in meetings, animations and night supervision
● Create and maintain a safe and welcoming environment
3. Supervision and safety
● Caring for the health, well-being and safety of campers
● Ensure campers eat a balanced diet
● Enforce camp rules and safety regulations on the various activity sites.
4. Support and collaboration
● Collaborate with other team members to ensure a harmonious stay
● Manage conflicts and help children resolve their problems.
● Perform related tasks to ensure the smooth operation of Base de Plein Air Mont-Tremblant, Aquabounga and Rouge et Diable (maintenance, preparation of special projects, animation support) as needed, during working hours.
Qualifications
○ Animation, summer camp or day camp experience.
○ Current First Aid and CPR certification.
○ DAFA or PAM certification (advantageous).
○ Proficiency in English (mandatory for animation) and conversational French.
○ Education level: Secondary 5
