Position Overview

As a Lumber Trader at Stella-Jones, you will play a key role in buying and selling softwood lumber and panels across a designated region in Canada. Leveraging market knowledge and trends, you will work closely with the Senior Lumber Trader to develop relationships with Canadian buying groups and grow your expertise in lumber trading. This is a unique opportunity to join North America's leading producer of industrial pressure-treated wood products and build a career in a dynamic, fast-paced industry.

This is a newly added Lumber Trader opening due to company growth and will be based at our corporate HQ in Montreal (Saint-Laurent). Note this position is hybrid-eligible once a period of training and integration to the team is complete.

Key Responsibilities:

Transaction Management :

• Manage the buying and selling transactions of softwood lumber and panels.
• Research and analyze lumber trading regulations, trends, and opportunities to inform decision-making.
• Inspect softwood lumber and panels to determine grade quality.

Inventory Oversight :

• Oversee wood and panel inventories across Stella-Jones plants and distribution centers, ensuring stock levels meet operational and customer needs.
• Monitor and report on inventory trends to optimize turnover and minimize waste.
• Handle all accessories

Relationship Building :

• Develop and maintain excellent relationships with Canadian buying groups such as Rona, BMR, and Home Hardware.
• Actively build and sustain relationships with existing and prospective customers to drive sales growth.

Market Expertise :

• Stay informed about market regulations, pricing trends, and emerging opportunities to maintain Stella-Jones’ competitive edge.
• Represent Stella-Jones at industry events to expand professional networks and promote the company.

Qualifications:

• One (1) or more years of experience buying and/or selling softwood lumber required ; Three (3) or more years preferred
• English & French proficiency required
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel

À titre de Négociant en bois d’œuvre chez Stella-Jones, vous jouerez un rôle clé dans l’achat et la vente de bois d’œuvre résineux et de panneaux dans une région désignée au Canada. En vous appuyant sur votre connaissance du marché et des tendances, vous travaillerez en étroite collaboration avec le Négociant principal en bois d’œuvre afin de développer des relations avec les groupes d’achat canadiens et de faire croître votre expertise en négoce de bois. Il s’agit d’une occasion unique de vous joindre au principal producteur nord-américain de produits de bois industriels traités sous pression et de bâtir une carrière dans une industrie dynamique et au rythme rapide.

Ce poste de Négociant en bois d’œuvre est nouvellement créé et sera basé à notre siège social de Montréal (arrondissement de Saint-Laurent).

Responsabilités principales

Gestion des transactions

• Gérer les transactions d’achat et de vente de bois d’œuvre résineux et de panneaux.
• Rechercher et analyser les règlements, tendances et opportunités liés au négoce de bois afin d’éclairer la prise de décision.
• Inspecter le bois d’œuvre résineux et les panneaux pour en déterminer la qualité (grade).

Surveillance des inventaires

• Surveiller les inventaires de bois et de panneaux dans les usines et centres de distribution de Stella-Jones afin d’assurer que les niveaux de stock répondent aux besoins opérationnels et des clients.
• Suivre et communiquer les tendances d’inventaire afin d’optimiser la rotation et de minimiser les pertes.
• Gérer tous les accessoires.

Développement des relations

• Développer et maintenir d’excellentes relations avec les groupes d’achat canadiens tels que Rona, BMR et Home Hardware.
• Bâtir et entretenir activement des relations avec les clients existants et potentiels afin de stimuler la croissance des ventes.

Expertise du marché

• Se tenir informé des règlements du marché, des tendances de prix et des nouvelles opportunités afin de maintenir l’avantage concurrentiel de Stella-Jones.
• Représenter Stella-Jones lors d’événements de l’industrie pour élargir votre réseau professionnel et promouvoir l’entreprise.

Qualifications

• Une (1) année ou plus d’expérience en achat et/ou vente de bois d’œuvre résineux requise; trois (3) années ou plus préférées.
• Maîtrise du français et de l’anglais requise (oral et écrit).
• Baccalauréat (atout).
• Compétences informatiques : niveau intermédiaire avec la suite Microsoft Office, incluant Excel.
