Position Overview The Information Technologies invites applications for a Project Network Support Technician . This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 24 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Network Services team is responsible for ensuring that the University community is served by well-designed, reliable, and scalable network systems. Support positions work in a team-based unit to design, install, operate, maintain, and plan upgrades to those systems, meeting the needs of the campus.
This two-year limited term position reports to the Network Services Manager, working 35 hours per week, with normal business hours being 08:30 - 16:30, Monday to Friday with the possibility of after-hours and overtime work based upon project need. The role will be subject to high-stress situations and will be required to balance multiple priorities and tasks with tight deadlines.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Work with Project Managers, vendors, clients, and representatives from various faculties/departments on campus to understand business requirements Coordinate with the Project Manager and Network Services Analysts to develop a list of resources and materials required to deliver the technical design Work with Vendors to ensure the project requirements align with current standards Ensure all network designs are aligned with the IT’s architectural standards and roadmaps Ensure all network designs are delivered in a timely manner, based on the project’s schedule QA all related network deliverables Continuous network standards reviews and enhancements Installation of various technologies not limited to network hardware Responsible for ensuring all documentation is detailed, accurate, timely, and meets the requirements of the stakeholders. These documents may include, but are not limited to:
Consolidated design, showing both logical and physical layout
Network build request(s)
Release documentation
Support documentation, known issues, errors
Requests for Change
Itemized quotations for materials and labour
Status reporting
Assist in the installation of Security, Audio Visual, Networking and Telephony hardware
Coordinate and/or implement Layer 1, 2 and 3 networking solutions
Design technical solutions to address identified business requirements
Assist with all data network installations and repairs
Expected to have a working knowledge of a wide range of network systems
Develop and maintain system standards to drive innovation and consistency in the technical service realm
Determine routing, cabling needs, termination requirements, system capacity, and equipment requirements
Take on responsibility for self-study and learning to remain well-versed in a wide range of technologies and systems
Quality assurance and control
Qualifications / Requirements:
A technical diploma or degree in a network or telecommunication field is required
An equivalent combination of relevant training and experience will also be considered
Must have a thorough knowledge of the networking industry and a good understanding of network cabling best practice
Must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of safety codes and requirements related to this work
Must be skilled and experienced in analyzing information and data, and in formulating and documenting plans
Demonstrated leadership, communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills are required
Must be fully competent in computer use with experience in Office applications
Must be able to perform manual activities, including climbing ladders and working in cramped and confined quarters
Must be able to distinguish colors to work with color-coded wiring
Must have an interest in frequently upgrading skills to keep up with technological advances
A valid Class 5 driver’s license (cannot be a graduated license) with proven good driving record (abstract required)
