Stantec is seeking to recruit a Principal Bridge Engineer to join our Bridges maintenance and design team in Reading. This is a great opportunity to join a busy, supportive and ambitious group with a strong forward workload. Our team in Reading is part of a strong Bridges and Civil structures team across the UK with a significant pool of expertise and experience working across a wide variety of projects from concept, to detailed design, construction and ongoing asset management.
You will focus on the technical lead and delivery of the maintenance of highway bridges, involving bridge inspections, monitoring, structural assessments, repairs, strengthening and refurbishment. The projects vary in size and complexity, with a geographical spread locally, regionally and nationally.

You will lead staff members to deliver the projects and provide technical support to senior management for successful delivery of projects to timescale and budget. You will liaise with the internal and external clients and design teams on projects and be involved in the delivery and management of successful and timely outcomes.
You will also, from time to time, be involved in multidisciplinary projects involving new bridge designs with ample opportunity for collaboration with various teams across the UK. As we continue to grow, this will provide opportunities for both - us as a business, but also you personally.
About You
You’ll be an experienced Engineer with a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, with excellent technical knowledge and capability in the maintenance and design of bridges and civil structures. You’ll be chartered with ICE and/ or IStructE.
You’ll embrace the opportunity to lead, manage and mentor colleagues around you. You’ll have project management knowledge covering a complete project life cycle from project initiation, feasibility study, detailed design and construction.
You’ll have good structural analysis abilities; and experience of using Eurocodes, DMRB, and MCHW. You’ll have experience in preparing and reviewing technical documents e.g., Technical Notes, Approval in Principle documents, Feasibility Study Reports, Inspection Reports Assessment Reports, etc.
Ability to liaise with and manage stakeholders, contractors and clients will be important to your success. You’ll have experience of undertaking site support / works monitoring of projects at construction stage. Knowledge of “Well-Managed Highway Infrastructure: A Code of Practice” and how to use the SAVI toolkit for asset management, including production of Life Cycle Plans will be a bonus.
