Are you a dedicated physician seeking meaningful, community-based work that goes beyond routine clinical care? Join a dynamic interdisciplinary team serving the health needs of individuals in the Correctional Network. As a Primary Care Physician, you’ll play a vital role in improving access to comprehensive healthcare for some of the most vulnerable and underserved populations in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

This role is more than a job it’s an opportunity to contribute to public health, health equity, and systemic change from the inside out. You'll work in a collaborative, supportive environment and help shape the standards of care for complex patient populations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-person and on-call primary care to incarcerated individuals, including:
  • Medical assessments, treatment planning, discharge summaries, and routine follow-ups
  • Management of chronic and acute conditions
  • Supporting care continuity and reintegration into community care networks
  • Practice trauma-informed and culturally safe care, particularly for Indigenous and marginalized populations
  • Support harm reduction strategies, including care for patients with substance use disorders
  • Act as Most Responsible Provider (MRP) and work closely with Nurse Practitioners and other healthcare professionals
  • Use and maintain electronic health records (EHR) in compliance with national privacy and documentation standards
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, including policy development, clinical training, and case review (15–20% of time)
  • Follow national clinical guidelines and institutional health policies (e.g., opioid stewardship, palliative care protocols)

Requirements:

  • Licensed and in good standing with a provincial regulatory authority (New Brunswick and/or Nova Scotia)
  • Fully bilingual in English and French (verbal and written), attestation required
  • A passion for serving complex and underserved populations
  • A commitment to health equity, social justice, and interdisciplinary care

Preferred Experience:

  • Work in correctional, hospital, or community health settings within the last 10 years
  • Postgraduate training (within 15 years) in one or more of the following areas (asset-based point system):
  • Addiction medicine
  • Emergency medicine
  • Infectious diseases (HIV/Hepatitis C)
  • Palliative care
  • Mental health
  • Chronic pain management
  • Care of the elderly
  • Indigenous health
  • Women’s health
