Job Description

The role of Physician Services Manager is to assist the senior leaders within Medical Affairs in developing an effective working relationship with physicians in Prince Edward Island to provide necessary medical care to the population, to monitor the delivery of services, to recognize emerging trends in medical service delivery, to identify barriers to most appropriate care and to develop and maintain effective partnerships between physicians and other players in the health care delivery system. The Manager also provides advice and support to the Medical Directors, physician leaders and senior managers. The Manager works with the management teams and physician leaders to recruit, develop, manage and engage family medicine physicians.

Duties include :

  • Provide support and advice to the senior leaders of Medical Affairs including Directors, Executive Director and Chief) in the areas of physician resource planning and physician services.
  • Assist in planning and prioritizing divisional strategic initiatives and in ensuring strategic initiative targets are met, soliciting additional resources from within and outside the Division as required.
  • Manage the budget and monitor data regarding financial and performance data in the areas of primary care, long term care, emergency department, hospitalists and others as required.
  • Provide advice to physicians who wish to work in an alternate payment model, as per the Physician Services Agreement.
  • Review and administer contracts with physicians for Primary Care, Long Term Care, and others as required.
  • Lead, coordinate and participate in evaluation of programs and services to ensure efficient and effective use of resources.
  • Ensure processes are in place to monitor utilization of and payment for medical and hospital insured services.
  • Provide direction, leadership and supervision to Medical Affairs staff related to duties of personnel administration, discipline, and appraisal of performance, career development, and continuing education.
  • Coordinate budget information, prepare annual budget estimates and quarterly forecasts for each operational area within portfolio.
  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Training at the Baccalaureate level in Health Care Management, Administration and Health Care Finance/Economics. Master’s degree is an asset.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of the PEI health system including Health PEI acute and community care medical services.
  • Considerable senior management and supervisory experience is required.
  • Strong skills in leadership/management, including budget management, risk management, strategic planning, policy and program development, and evaluation processes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in compiling reports, spreadsheets and databases is essential.
  • Experience in strategic and operational planning is required.
  • Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

Other Qualifications:

  • Training in a health-related discipline would be an asset
  • Conflict and skills management experience would be an asset.
  • Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.

Salary Range: $43.22 - $54.02 per hour (Level 21)

Bi-Weekly Hours: 75.0 Hours Bi-Weekly / Days / Monday ‑ Friday
