Job Title : Pediatric Occupational Therapist
Location : Whitehorse, Yukon
Clinic : Occupational Therapy Consulting/OT North
Position Type : Preference for Full-Time, can be open to Part-Time options (0.6FTE minimum)
Salary : $89,000 - $104,000
Start Date : As soon as possible

About Us:

We are a family-centered clinic providing pediatric occupational therapy services to primarily children and adolescents aged 5-18 in Whitehorse, Yukon, although we do at times see younger children and adults.

Pediatric services include assessment and treatment for Autism, ADHD, Developmental Coordination Disorder, FASD, Learning Disabilities, Sensory Processing Disorders, Attachment, Fine Motor, Developmental Delays, and other challenges. Our team uses primarily a sensory integrative approach to therapy, along with neuromuscular and occupational-focused approaches, helping children improve their functional abilities, self-regulation, and independence in everyday activities.

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Pediatric Occupational Therapist to join our team. This role will involve assessing, treating, and providing individualized therapy for children and adolescents with various diagnoses. The successful candidate will use evidence-based practices, primarily focusing on a sensory integration model, to help children develop the skills to meet their age-appropriate occupational performance demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessments : Conduct comprehensive assessments, including sensory processing, motor skills, fine and gross motor abilities, social-emotional regulation, and functional performance. Common assessments include: COPM, SOSI-M, Beery VMI, BOT2/3, Sensory Profile.
  • Treatment Planning : Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment results, child’s interests and family’s input and goals.
  • Therapy Sessions : Provide one-on-one therapy using primarily a sensory integrative and child driven approach.
  • Parent Education and Collaboration : Offer guidance and support to parents and caregivers.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration : Work closely with other health professionals, including speech-language pathologists, physiotherapists, doctors, social workers, and educators, to provide holistic care for our clients.
  • Documentation : Maintain clear, accurate, and up-to-date client records in accordance with regulatory bodies. This includes assessment reports, treatment plans, and progress notes on the Therabyte system.
  • Professional Development : Generous funding provided by employer for professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Degree : Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in occupational therapy from an accredited program.
  • Licensing : Registration and licensure with any provincial regulatory body and the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).
  • Experience : Any experience is welcome, training, mentorship and professional development.
  • Specialized Skills : Experience and/or strong interest in working with children and adolescents with a range of diagnoses, including sensory processing disorders, autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and developmental delays is an asset.
  • Knowledge : Preference given to individuals who have a good understanding of sensory integration theory and interventions, pediatric motor development, and evidence-based practices in pediatric therapy.
  • Personal Attributes : Compassionate, patient, and committed to improving the lives of children. Ability to build rapport with children and their families, demonstrating strong communication and interpersonal skills. A team player.
  • Flexibility : Willingness to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary clinic environment, adapting to the unique needs of each child.
  • Driver's License: Class 5, some driving to schools and communities required.
