Position Title: Pediatric Nurse

Location: Thunder Bay or Sioux Lookout (With travel to communities)

Position Type: Full-Time

Reporting to: IFNA Clinical Manager

Position Summary:

The Independent First Nations Alliance (IFNA) is looking to hire a full-time Registered Nurse to work as part of an interdisciplinary health team and in partnership with the IFNA Jordan's Principle Program. The program is seeking to address the gaps in care for expecting mothers, post-natal mothers, and children and youth (0-6). We seek to bring on an individual committed to growth and development of the program in partnership with the IFNA Jordan's Principle Service Coordinator. The Pediatric Nurse will focus on both client and community in assessment, education, screening, and referral. The Pediatric Nurse will focus on providing care to clients and communities while upholding the mission, vision, and values of IFNA Health Services.

Education:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, BScN
  • Current Registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses, with no restrictions
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated health promotion knowledge, experience with clients of all ages
  • Ability to work independently and to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Advocacy work on behalf of clients, including referral to local service agencies
  • Experience tracking & reporting statistical information
  • Capacity to solve problems and to see different perspectives
  • Knowledge of and connection to service agencies in the location of service delivery
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to network with other community agencies/services/organizations
  • Knowledge of parenting skills, pre-natal health and issues, infant care, nutrition issues
  • Awareness of community resources
  • Demonstrated experience providing services to Indigenous families and communities
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Software, internet, and general office equipment
  • Highly self-motivated and willing to the initiative
  • Respectful, patient, understanding, and have a nurturing personality
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Experience in maintaining confidentiality (HIPAA compliant)
  • Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn Indigenous culture and

· Knowledge and/or experience with principles of adult and child education and community mobilization

· Ability to speak one or more local dialects from within IFNA communities is considered an asset

Accountability:

  • This person reports directly to IFNA's Clinical manager

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Indigenous families with children 0-6 and provide information to expectant and new parents regarding: pregnancy, healthy child development, providing a safe and nurturing environment, parenting, daily living skills, cultural teachings, and traditions
  • Plan, schedule and complete home visits based on plan of care and client needs
  • Provide education, assessment, screening, and referral to pre-natal and post-natal mothers, families, community, newborns and children
  • Assist families in setting, clarifying, and working to accomplish their goals
  • Demonstrate skills through role modeling
  • Participate in Case Conferences/Service Coordination meetings
  • Refer and encourage families to participate and utilize other community resources/services/programs that will have a positive impact on their lives
  • Provide client supports as appropriate to individual situation
  • Work with local service delivery agencies to provide referral to various services, including but not limited to those related to healthcare, housing, child welfare and food security
  • Plan and facilitate workshops
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings, staff development sessions and training opportunities arrange by the Clinical Manager
  • Work in collaboration with other community agencies to provide special events and services to clients
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures as stated in Independent First Nations Alliance (IFNA) Personnel Manual. Support, promote, and encourage IFNA's vision
  • Practice effective communication with fellow employees, supervisors, and community members
  • Act as an effective and contributing IFNA Health Services team member
  • Support and work towards the overall aims and objectives of IFNA
  • Complete monthly reports (mileage, client list and monthly workplan) and submit to the Clinical Manager on or before the due date
  • Complete quarterly reports on or before the requested due date
  • Complete reports to funders as required
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date client listing, case notes and client files
  • Perform clinical duties such as: physical assessments, vital sign readings, blood draws, child developments screenings, and other duties as required.
  • Other reports or admin as assigned
  • Representation on committees as required for the enhancement and benefit of IFNA's programs
  • To network and promote IFNA and all IFNA's related programs. Always adhere to professionalism and maintain good communications
  • Maintain accuracy and confidentiality for client records (HIPAA Guidelines compliant)
  • Maintain a role in emergency operations as needed
  • On-call emergency operations such as evacuation support and COVID-19 outbreaks
  • Working outside regular operating hours as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Schedule

· Monday to Friday

· Some after hours and weekends when necessary

Ability to Commute:

· Access to transportation (mileage allowance provided)

· Travel to IFNA communities via small aircraft and/or emergency vehicles regularly

Other

· Successful candidate must complete a Criminal Records check, including Vulnerable Sector Search

· Vaccination against covid-19, MMR, and pertussis

· Class G drivers license.
