Job Description

Littler is seeking a lawyer with a minimum of 6 years of employment law experience to join Littler CaseSmart (LCS) as a Littler CaseSmart Counsel, Administrative Complaints Lawyer. The candidate should possess excellent academic credentials and must be licensed to practice law in a Canadian jurisdiction, with preference provided to candidates called and licensed in Ontario. This position can be worked remotely from anywhere in Ontario.

Responsibilities

Littler CaseSmart Counsel, Administrative Complaints Lawyers are responsible for the defense of each human rights tribunal application, human rights commission complaint, and employment/labour standards complaint assigned to them from investigation through conclusion. This position involves frequent communication with clients and government agencies, and the defense of assigned matters may involve the following work:

  • Drafting responses to complaints/applications listed above.
  • Responding to Ministry of Labour and Human Rights Commission or Tribunal requests for information.
  • Representing clients in settlement negotiations and remote mediations.
  • While this position is fully remote, the lawyer may, on occasion, be called upon to assist with supporting the practice of our Toronto office. Travel would not be required.

Littler CaseSmart Counsel are full-time, remote lawyers with a reduced billable hours requirement and with no obligation to engage in any business-related travel or any required business development. These positions are ideal for lawyers seeking interesting, challenging work that allows more flexibility than on-track roles.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity and experience with employment/labour standards complaints and human rights applications and complaints on the management side.
  • A minimum of six years of employment law experience, including drafting persuasive responses to complaints/applications listed above and representing clients at hearings and/or mediations.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
  • Called and licensed to practice law in a Canadian jurisdiction. Called and licensed to practice in Ontario preferred.
  • Resident in Ontario.
