We are looking for a confident, dedicated, and energetic teacher to fill a fun and dynamic EFL position at kindergartens around the Tokyo area. Candidates must have:

• a university degree
• a minimum of 1 year of experience working with children

Job Description

Students burst into giggles as the teacher carefully moves between them, watching for any signs of movement from those frozen in their platypus poses. With a grin, you announce that everyone is safe and ask, "What animal is next?" Instantly, a dozen eager hands shoot up. You call on one student, who excitedly shouts, "Elephant!" In eager agreement, you all begin stomping around the room like big, trumpeting elephants while singing the animal song. Suddenly, you call out "freeze," and the room fills with laughter once again as everyone stops mid-stomp.

POSITION DETAILS

Positions are Monday to Friday, approximately 10am to 6pm, and involve going to a set weekly schedule of kindergartens to teach English classes to groups of twenty to thirty children aged between 3 and 6 years of age in the morning, and classes of up to fifteen students aged between 3 and 11 years of age (classes are divided by age group) in the afternoon. The maximum teaching time per day is set at 5 hours (this equates to two hours of teaching in the morning and no more than four 45 minute classes in the afternoon).

SPECIFIC POSITION DETAILS

Initially, this is an approximately 5 month position until the end of the school year. At that stage, provided the coverage spell has been successful, we will offer the teacher a full-time position in the program, based on our hiring needs. This may include remaining in the present position, or a choice of vacancies we have available. Relocation support will be offered should that be necessary. Full details will be discussed during the interview.

LOCATION

The kindergartens on this schedule are situated in Western Tokyo, accessed from or near to the following stations: Kumegawa, Mitaka, Nakagawara, and Kokubunji stations. Each schedule would be ideal for someone already living in the Western Tokyo area.

We are only looking to interview candidates who are already living within comfortable commuting distance from these position locations.

START DATE

The start date for this position is early November 2025, or at the availability of the right candidate. An earlier start is also possible.

COMPENSATION

• A starting wage of 290,000 (due to the initial short-term nature of the contract)

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

• Resumes will be screened to check that the minimum requirements are met.
• Candidates will be contacted to arrange web-based interviews via Google Meet or Zoom.
• Candidates will be asked to provide copies of their residence card, passports, qualifications, and letters of reference.
• Following the first round of interviews, successful candidates will be invited to teach a short trial activity at one of our Tokyo schools.
• For candidates further away, a video activity can be recorded and sent for us to view.
• Successful candidates at this stage are offered a second round interview, one again conducted online.
• A final decision will be made, and the successful candidate will start on the start date or as soon as they are able to.
