Job Description

Our client, a fast-growing French-origin luxury retail brand known for its artisanal craftsmanship and international expansion, is seeking a Human Resources Business Partner to support their operations in Japan and South Korea .

This position is based in Tokyo and will report to the HR Manager at global HQ. The role will be responsible for providing hands-on HR support for boutique teams across both markets, contributing to recruitment, employee engagement, performance management, and local HR compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Talent Acquisition

  • Partner with HQ and store leadership to support hiring for both office and retail roles

  • Provide local market insights and contribute to sourcing strategies

  • Ensure alignment with the brands culture and values during selection processes

Onboarding & Retention

  • Lead onboarding to ensure smooth integration of new hires

  • Implement initiatives to drive engagement and reduce turnover

Payroll & HR Administration

  • Coordinate payroll with external providers; validate timesheets and bonus data

  • Manage contracts, amendments, terminations, and visa-related processes

HR Partnering

  • Serve as the main HR contact for employees in Japan and Korea

  • Advise managers on HR topics and support in resolving employee relations matters

Performance Management

  • Assist managers with reviews, development plans, and feedback conversations

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure legal compliance with Japanese and Korean labor regulations

  • Maintain HR records and provide reporting as needed

Office Management & Internal Events

  • Oversee daily operations of the Tokyo office

  • Organize events that foster internal culture and team engagement

Requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years of HR experience in Japan

  • Background in luxury or high-end retail is highly preferred

  • Strong knowledge of payroll practices and labor laws

  • Bachelors degree in HR, Business Admin, or related field

  • Fluent in Japanese and English (Korean is a strong plus)

  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills

  • Comfortable with occasional domestic travel
