The Role

The HRBP for Professional Services will be responsible for all HR functions through the lens of Professional Services (Wholesale) business. The mission of this position is to consult with all business leaders on HR issues such as recruitment, onboarding, terminations, legal issues, company policies, payroll system processes, organizational development, employee engagement, and training.

The most challenging aspects of this position include developing leadership capabilities of people managers and leading change for leaders and their teams in dynamic business environments. Success factors for this role include effective collaboration with internal stakeholders, strong communication skills, gathering business know-how, and creating effective solutions based on business trends.

This role can be based in Tokyo and requires occasional domestic business travel. Initially, the HRBP will not have a team management responsibility, but eventually may supervise Junior HRBP to fully respond to the growing demands.

  • Work with executive leadership to determine business needs and collaborate with all stakeholders to help meet these needs.
  • Identify new roles and/or existing job openings that must be filled to enable the business to meet its goals.
  • Lead the hiring process for high-priority roles, from creating the job description to screening and interviewing candidates.
  • Support the HR Director in preparing and following up on the HR budget.
  • Develop new HR strategies.
  • Evaluate training programs (in-house digital training platform Leonardo & outsourced).
  • Support the HR Director in workforce planning, succession planning, and restructuring.
  • Support global HR teams in adapting global HR projects locally.
  • Resolve all employee issues.
  • Identify coaching needs for all levels of the team.
  • Independently manage performance issues.
  • Drive HR initiatives.
  • Apply knowledge of employment law to effectively resolve employment relations issues in partnership with leaders and legal team resources.

Your Skills

  • At least 5-10 years of experience in HR departments in the FMCG/Retail sector.
  • Solid experience in overall HR processes.
  • Strategic control of HR processes.
  • Analytical and result oriented.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills in large and small groups.
  • Excellent people management skills.
  • Solid experience with MS Office and SAP HR.
  • Proficiency in English and Japanese.
  • Understanding about Japanese labor law
