Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Operator is part of an effective construction team that successfully completes projects according to approved plans, specifications and applicable codes while maintaining high quality and a safe workplace. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the scraper for road building and other projects.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment safely and efficiently according to relevant legislation, policies, procedures and work plans
• Performs daily safety and maintenance checks
• Cleans equipment as scheduled and/or required
• Ensures equipment is safely and securely stored
• Advises Superintendent or maintenance department of any requirements for maintenance or repair
• Participates in routine fueling and maintenance
• Practices workplace safety
• May operate other heavy equipment as required
• May perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience in heavy equipment operation
• Experience in a construction environment or in a similar role
• Familiar with construction terms and practices
• Effective verbal and listening communication skills
• Ability to understand and effectively execute verbal and written directions
• Adheres to company Health, Safety, & Environmental reporting and standard assessments
• Must be a team player
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
