Site Description:
Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre (CNRHC) is one of two acute care referral centers in the central region. It has about 130 acute care beds, 15 transitional LTC beds and offers a number of specialty services including anesthesia, general internal medicine, general surgery, neurology, obstetrics/gynecology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, pathology, psychiatry, urology, radiology, otolaryngology, and dermatology. There are between 45 to 55 full-time physicians, general practice, and specialists providing services in the Grand Falls-Windsor Area. In addition to 24 hour on-site emergency physician coverage, this center provides advanced diagnostic imaging, laboratory, and other investigative services.

Position: Casual Security Guard
Site: Central Newfoundland Regional Health Center, James Paton Memorial Hospital
Overtime: Overtime after 48 hours
Hours: Continental Rotation - 0700-1900/1900-0700
Payrate: $ 19.00/hour

Schedule Example:

  • Week 1 - Days - Mon-Tues, Fri-Sat
  • Week 2 - Days - Sun, Wed-Thu
  • Week 3 - Nights - Mon-Tues, Fri-Sat
  • Week 4 - Nights - Sun, Wed-Thu

Key responsibilities:

  • Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
  • Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
  • Access Control : Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
  • Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
  • Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Conflict Resolution: De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
  • Report Writing: Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
  • Collaboration with Hospital Staff : Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
  • Enforce Hospital Policies: Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards

Prerequisites:

  • Clear Letter of Conduct/Criminal Background check
  • Valid First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a CSA-approved vendor)
  • Covid Vaccine two doses
  • Immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella and two step TB skin test
  • Valid class 5 Driver License
  • English (oral and written) fluency is a must
  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
  • Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
  • Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
  • Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
