About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and passionate Environment Concept Artist to join our team in Montreal either onsite or as a hybrid role. This position will be a critical member of our project consisting of a small team and is expected to contribute to the overall visual style of our upcoming AAA title, with the expectations of a realistic style and quick turnaround. This role will help define the visual and aesthetic direction of our project by working with the Art Director and Lead Environment Artist, along with our Narrative and Level Designers, to produce concepts that create a fun and compelling player experience.

Summary of Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

• Work closely with the Art Director, Lead Environment Artist, and other key project leaders to help define the look of this project and possibly multiple internal projects.
• The skills to create environment concept art at a senior level, while keeping engine constraints in mind from the start.
• A realistic style that can leans photorealistic and can depict foliage, indoor and outdoor areas, as well as narrative and cinematic call-outs.
• Expert knowledge of industry standard gameplay engines, such as Unity and Unreal.
• Joining in on discussions of gameplay with the group during playtests.
• Deliver content according to the schedule set by the project leads.
• Create high quality artwork to support studio needs such as marketing, pitch decks, and PR events.

Requirements

• 5+ years of industry experience as a concept artist in the game industry is a must.
• Strong understanding of storytelling, lighting, composition, perspective, and color theory.
• Strong foundational art skills and a keen eye for keeping art consistent and on-model.
• The ability to create in a wide variety of styles, themes, and genres to fully understand how to explore an art style.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Self-direction, passion, and creativity in your work.
• A receptiveness to feedback and the ability to act successfully on direct critique.

Big Plusses

• The ability to lead a small team of artists towards a brand identity.
• Experience using 3D applications such as ZBrush, 3DSMax, Maya, Substance Designer, and/or other game production tools.

Portfolio required. Please include a variety of examples of your work that demonstrate a breadth of style and content.
