Position Overview:

As a Sylvan Elementary/Junior English Tutor, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and engaging learning environment for students from Kindergarten through Grade 8. Using our proven Sylvan program materials, you will deliver personalized instruction tailored to each student’s unique needs. Whether building foundational phonics and reading comprehension skills, supporting writing development, or enhancing overall English proficiency, you will help students build confidence, master concepts, and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare for each instructional session by reviewing and organizing Sylvan program materials
• Greet students warmly and create a supportive learning atmosphere
• Instruct students in a variety of language arts topics, including phonics, reading comprehension, writing, and English skills for elementary and junior levels
• Manage students, tasks, and time effectively to ensure a balanced, productive session
• Provide praise, encouragement, and constructive feedback to keep students motivated
• Administer Sylvan tokens for specific achievements and track progress
• Communicate student needs to centre staff and collaborate on learning strategies
• Attend staff meetings and participate in ongoing professional development and training
• Complete certification training on each Sylvan program taught

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Education, English, Language Arts, or a related field (or current enrollment in such a program)
• Provincial teaching credentials ( OCT ) preferred but not required
• Minimum of one or two years of teaching/tutoring experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of phonics, reading comprehension, writing, and English concepts from elementary through junior-intermediate levels
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to different learning needs
• Problem-solving abilities and a strong commitment to student success
• Team player with a passion for education and lifelong learning!

Additional Information:

This position offers flexible part-time hours and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in students’ academic journeys.

Pay range is $19.5 - $22 per hour after tax, as a contractor with payments issued once a month.

You will work in a beautiful, historic Rosedale location with a supportive team committed to educational excellence.
