Job Description

The EKG Technician is responsible for preparing patients, performing diagnostic EKG procedures, and assisting cardiologists in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The role requires strong rhythm recognition skills, adherence to departmental policies, and the ability to respond promptly to cardiac emergencies. The technician will also handle device maintenance, perform diagnostic testing such as Holter monitoring, and ensure all EKG results are accurately edited and confirmed. Key Responsibilities Prepare and instruct patients for diagnostic EKG procedures as ordered. Perform EKGs in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Scan EKG tracings to identify abnormal rhythms and alert cardiologists when necessary. Respond promptly to emergency situations such as Code Blue. Conduct additional diagnostic tests, including Holter monitoring, event monitoring, and recordings. Edit and confirm EKG results based on physician interpretations. Perform computer and equipment maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting as needed. Comply with all departmental policies and procedures. Required Skills Strong understanding of cardiac rhythms and EKG interpretation. Ability to perform and analyze diagnostic EKG procedures. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in handling cardiac diagnostic equipment and software. Ability to work efficiently under pressure, especially during emergencies. Attention to detail and adherence to established protocols. Mandatory Experience Requirements Graduate of Part 1 and Part 2 Basic ECG course or completion of an equivalent in-house training program. Successful completion of an EKG rhythm recognition test. Recent experience working as a Cardiology Technician and/or EKG Technician.
