Job Description

FUNCTION & DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Teacher Training, the Education Consultant has the following duties:
  • Travel regularly to schools in order to assist the in-service training of Inuit teachers enrolled in the Kativik/McGill/UQAT programs as well as offer support to Teacher Trainees throughout their training;
  • Participate in the development and delivery of training courses and workshops offered through Teacher Training;
  • Evaluate and assess teachers as warranted by their program of study and assist in the evaluation of Teacher Trainees alongside the master teacher;
  • Participate in the development of Inuktitut content of Training courses and assist in the planning and delivery of all courses under the Teacher Training program;
  • Develop, evaluate and revise Inuktitut programs and materials in Curriculum Development for program courses in consultation with instructors and consultants;
  • Keep informed of other Kativik projects related to educational programs;
  • In collaboration with principals, coordinate the work of local Teacher Training counselors;
  • Advise on staffing of the Inuit sectors in all schools, especially at the time of school organization;
  • Ensure fluidity and coherence among the different courses offered as part of the full-time program by avoiding certain subjects or themes being repeated too often;
  • Recommend schedule adjustments to accommodate the new program, proposing variations in class hours and tutoring hours over a shorter period than the three-week model;
  • Adapt part-time course content for the full-time program;
  • Verify the correctness of translations/terminology used in the relevant content of Teacher Training binders;
  • Be sure that instruction is relevant to Inuit culture and language;
  • Develop new full-time courses (structure, outline, and content);
  • Supervise and evaluate full-time students during Field Experience practicum courses;
  • Conduct research on Indigenous teacher training development in various Indigenous communities, Arctic regions, or specific global examples;
  • Assist the Coordinator of Teacher Training in the development of university partnerships for Indigenous education programs;
  • Carry out any other relevant duties as requested by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Certification in education/Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of specialization such as Education or Psychology or a graduate of the Kativik Teacher Training Program.

The School Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficiency in at least two (2) of the three (3) official languages of work of the school board (Inuktitut, French, English);
  • Experience in supporting staff and teachers in Nunavik;
  • Experience in assisting with instruction of courses;
  • Thorough knowledge of Inuktitut programs;
  • Available to travel frequently in Nunavik.

CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:

In accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement for professionals. This position belongs to job category 2104: from $55,282 to $102,857 annually depending on qualifications and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
