Overview
Tyler Union in Anniston, AL is seeking a Distribution Manager to become part of the team. Tyler Union has a century of success in manufacturing and selling ductile iron fittings, joint restraints, and valve boxes for the waterworks industry. This role oversees the efficient receipt, slotting, and storage of incoming goods/product, maintenance of inventory integrity, and accurate picking and shipping of outgoing goods in the DC/Warehouse. These areas are subject to specific performance standards KPI’s. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external partners. Meets guidelines for all federal, state, and local standards and laws that may apply to operations/warehousing/facility including reporting of it, certification, and training. Coordinates training and development for each function.
Responsibilities
- Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Tyler Union Safety Management Program. Advise Safety personnel of any deviations from this program.
- Develop and effect appropriate cost efficiencies in warehousing/operations, personnel, inventory management, transportation, and other areas under direct control.
- Direct appropriate staff personnel to effect specific warehouse/operations/facility responsibilities.
- Maintain operations equipment to achieve maximal life and corporate payback on investment in such equipment.
- Manage cross functional projects and new account implementations as needed by management. flexibility, and team building skills to drive efficiency and improve results of the logistics / supply chain functions.
- Oversee all operational aspects of the facility in order to manage and improve the flow of goods in and out of the Distribution Center.
- Plan and manage all financial aspects, including operating budget and expenses along with staffing levels and productivity in order to maintain a cost-effective operation.
- Coordinate information and communication with corporate departments, key department associates, vendors to ensure that the right product is in the right place at the right time.
- Drive operational changes and foster continuous improvement.
- Create action-oriented plans to drive performance.
- Oversee, implement, and maintain compliance with company and OSHA guidelines to create and maintain a safe working environment for all associates.
- Prevent associate incident and injury by overseeing accident investigations, assessing root cause analysis and implementing necessary improvements to policies and procedures.
- Focus on providing excellent service to all business channels.
- Develop strategic planning in conjunction with the Director of Distribution Operations to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation and utilization of the facility
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Mentor, train and develop all associates to encourage professional growth.
- Lead and hold team accountable for timely delivery and accurate inventory.
- Assume responsibility for the development of the team through hiring, training, continuous improvement, and accountability for performance.
- Create an environment that supports creativity and innovation.
- Conduct job observations and provide coaching/training.
- Manage all associate relations issues and functions.
- Actively listen and communicate effectively with all company associates and business contacts.
- Promote a strong sense of teamwork and a culture of respect by working together safely, effectively, respectfully, and efficiently with all associates.
- Ensure safety observations are being performed to coach and counsel associates on safety procedures.
- Leads associates to be fully compliant with all safety and Hazmat rules and regulations, legal regulations, and human resource policies; ensures safety and security of associates, facility, equipment, and inventory relevant to department.
- Conducts routine departmental analysis on functions, processes, asset utilization (equipment, resources, and labor).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years Distribution Center management experience in a sizeable warehouse/DC.
- 5+ years strong interpersonal and proven leadership experience with a focus on team building.
- Microsoft Office, Excel and WMS experience.
- The position requires strong strategic leadership skills.
- Strong time management, organizational, planning and self-motivation skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to travel and work at other Distribution Centers as needed. Estimated travel < 15% annually.
