Role Overview

Coupang’s Legal team plays a critical role in enabling our business growth while ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations. As Legal Counsel for CP One Japan, you will provide strategic legal support across employment, regulatory, and commercial matters. You will also function as an ambassador, championing Coupang’s leadership principles and corporate culture.

What You Will Do

  • Provide legal support for recruiting, HR, employment, and labour matters
  • Prepare, advise on, and maintain employment contracts, Work Rules, and HR policies
  • Advise, draft, and negotiate a wide range of contracts with third parties
  • Support new business and product launches
  • Manage litigation and investigations that may arise in Japan
  • Manage regulatory affairs and represent Coupang in connection with inquiries by regulators
  • Collaborate with internal teams including HR, Business, Operations, Compliance, Global Procurement, and Finance
  • Lead and manage projects with internal stakeholders and external law firms

Basic Qualifications

Qualified and admitted/licensed lawyer in Japan
10+ years of post-qualification legal experience
Fluency in written and spoken Japanese
Exceptional ability to deliver creative, thoughtful and business-oriented results
Willingness to learn and take on new challenges
Ability to adapt to rapid and diverse business changes
Strong and effective communication skills
Sound judgment in developing and implementing legal solutions

Preferred Qualifications

Mixture of law firm and in-house experience
Business level English
Experience supporting start-up or fast-growth environments
