CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK:

The Database Administrator manages computer systems that store and organize data for the company. The DBA duties include creating and maintaining a relationship with analysts and leadership, securing data, identifying areas for improvement with the infrastructure, and pinpointing data access to new systems through constant acquisitions. This mid-level position triages multiple incoming priorities, understands staff service needs, responds to data warehouse inquiries/requests/issues, provides technical support, and identifies and resolves issues/incidents with high satisfaction, technical knowledge, and timeliness.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • Technology background and formal training are strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with two (5) years of DBA professional experience
  • Relevant SQL Server database certifications

Experience:

  • Superb attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and deliver in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally
  • Strong SQL Server database experience
  • Experience managing Azure data warehouse instances with Synapse.
  • Healthcare background or experience highly recommended.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong sense of ownership and proactivity

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following: Identifying and administering policy around who has access to the database
  • Helping build the structure and design of the database
  • Participate in the analysis and composition of requirements
  • Implementing security measures for the data
  • Performs database backups, restoration, merging, integrity checks, load monitoring, and performance tuning.
  • Continually monitoring database systems, updates, and alerting
  • Ensure that database servers back up is as per the business’s Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
  • Conduct test backups to verify that business’ Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) are met
  • Be available to troubleshoot SQL Server service outages during business hours, after-hours, and weekends.
  • Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to reduce the number of false alarms
  • Make decisions on technologies (clustering, log shipping, mirroring, Windows Azure, etc.) to be used for incorporating new systems.
  • Install and configure new SQL Servers
  • Deployment of database change scripts from third-party vendors and partners
  • Analyze performance issues to determine the best solutions to increase performance hardware purchases, server configuration changes or index/query changes)
  • Documentation of COMPANY’s database environment (Technical and End User)
  • Documents the established procedures used to perform repetitive but complex DBA tasks
  • Establishes and maintains comprehensive database design, including updating documentation reflecting changes to the database design.
  • Produces reports for a wide variety of purposes
  • Develops, documents, and enforces standards for access to the databases
  • Analyzes all informational requirements of production systems and develops database specifications
