We're recruiting for a Customs Compliance Specialist to join our team at a well-established Canadian Customs Brokerage firm. This is a succession role designed to work closely alongside our current Director of Compliance , then to step into the full leadership position upon their retirement.

About the Role

As our new Customs Compliance Specialist , you will:

  • Partner closely with the Director of Compliance to ensure our operations meet all regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry standards.
  • Step into a supervisory role right away, leading the Compliance department’s administrative staff.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Customs Tariff classification across a variety of industries.
  • Review and validate tariff classifications, valuation, origin declarations, and overall regulatory compliance.
  • Communicate directly with clients to clarify customs requirements and provide tailored compliance advice.
  • Support internal training initiatives, assist with audit preparation, and help document internal procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments to strengthen quality assurance and streamline processes.
  • Bring a team-first mindset, offering support to Senior Raters and cross-functional teams as needed.
  • Be a go-to resource for internal teams looking for guidance on customs rules and procedures.
  • Take an active role in a planned succession strategy, transitioning into broader responsibilities over time.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is both detail-oriented and forward-thinking , with a passion for customs compliance and a desire to lead.

You’ll thrive in this role if you bring:

  • 6+ years of experience as a Customs Analyst, Senior Rater, or in a Customs Compliance role within a customs brokerage environment
  • Strong understanding of Canadian Customs Tariff and classification practices , and documentation standards
  • Clear, professional English communication skills – written and verbal (including formatting and editing)
  • Proficiency in customs brokerage software and IT tools for compliance and reporting
  • A high level of self-direction and organizational skills
  • Supervisory or mentoring experience
  • CCS designation (required)
